Legendary NFL quarterback Archie Manning recently voiced his reservations about the intense scrutiny and lofty expectations placed upon his grandson, Arch Manning, as he prepares for the upcoming college football season with the Texas Longhorns.

Arch Manning arrived at the University of Texas with significant fanfare, a blend of his impressive high school football achievements and the enduring legacy of his family name in the sport. This combination naturally led to considerable anticipation surrounding his collegiate career.
As discussions intensify among college football analysts regarding Manning's potential contributions to the Longhorns, especially as he enters a crucial year, his grandfather, NFL icon Archie Manning, has shared his thoughts on the intense public scrutiny.
Archie Manning Addresses Early Expectations
Archie Manning conveyed a sense of disappointment regarding the initial expectations placed on his grandson.
"I was kind of disappointed in a lot of, just a lot of people," Archie Manning shared with KXAN-TV when discussing the projections for his grandson entering college. "The whole thing. They kind of crowned Arch before he ever played. And I just didn’t think that was fair. Yeah, it was a little tough start, played a great team, and anyway."He continued, expressing immense pride in Arch's character: "But I’ve never been more proud of anybody in my life with the way Arch battled through what he had to go through last year, and the way he played, you know, the last eight or nine games of the season."
Anticipation Builds for the 2026 Season
With the college football season approaching in a few months, the excitement around Arch Manning is expected to escalate once more. He is anticipated to be a pivotal figure in the Longhorns' pursuit of a College Football Playoff berth and to solidify his standing among top quarterback prospects for the NFL Draft.
In the 2025 season, Manning accumulated 3,163 passing yards and threw for 26 touchdowns.
The Longhorns are set to kick off their 2026 campaign on September 5 against Texas State. While this opener might appear straightforward, a significant early challenge awaits on September 12, when they will host Ohio State.
