Victims' Memory Overlooked Amidst Public Support for Mother Accused of Their Deaths, Says Advocate
A mother of six has voiced concerns that the three young children allegedly killed by their mother are being overshadowed by public rallies in support of the woman on trial.
U.S.·

A mother of six has expressed her concern that the three young victims of Lindsay Clancy, who is currently on trial for their alleged murders, have been largely forgotten amid the significant public demonstrations of support for the accused woman.
Lindsay Clancy, 36, faces three counts of first-degree murder. The charges stem from the deaths of her children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan, all under the age of six—who were found strangled at the family's residence in January 2023. The prosecution recently concluded its presentation, after which Clancy's defense attorney began making arguments, asserting that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when the children died.
"We all know her name," the mother of six stated, referring to Lindsay Clancy. "Very few people know the names of her children."
Public Support and Its Critics
The mother of six was particularly troubled by the hundreds of individuals who gathered outside Plymouth Superior Court on a recent Thursday to show support for Lindsay Clancy. Those participating in the demonstrations, many dressed in pink, have clarified that their presence does not endorse the tragic events but aims to raise awareness for maternal mental health and offer solidarity to mothers experiencing postpartum conditions.
However, the mother of six observed, "We don't see any of them standing out there with a button with the three children's faces on them. When you listen to interviews with all of the women who are standing out, they almost never mention the three child victims."
Should Clancy be found not guilty by reason of insanity, she would not be released. Instead, she would be committed to a state psychiatric hospital, subject to regular evaluations.
Just days after her children's deaths in January 2023, Patrick Clancy, Lindsay's husband, wrote on a GoFundMe page, "I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have...The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone - me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients."
Jonathan Hatami, a deputy district attorney specializing in complex child abuse cases, echoed the sentiment that much of the public discourse has centered on Lindsay Clancy's conduct during the trial, rather than on the children who lost their lives. "These children died," he emphasized.
Expert Testimony on Mental State
Expert witnesses for both the defense and prosecution concentrated their recent testimony on Lindsay Clancy's mental state at the time of the events, specifically addressing whether she was experiencing psychosis.
Dr. Phillip Resnick, a forensic psychiatrist and recognized authority on filicide, testified for the defense. He stated that Lindsay Clancy appeared to be functioning normally for a significant part of the day her children died, even making a snowman with them. He described a point when she allegedly experienced a hallucination and what he termed a "delusion of influence," feeling as though her body was overtaken and she was acting as a "puppet" beyond her control.
Conversely, Dr. Avram Mack, a child and forensic psychiatrist testifying for the prosecution, asserted that Lindsay Clancy's actions on the day her children died were methodical and organized. He concluded that she should be held criminally responsible for their deaths, directly challenging the defense's claims. "My opinion is that she retained the capacity required for having criminal responsibility for these actions," Mack testified.
Closing arguments in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial are anticipated to begin early next week, after which jurors will commence their deliberations.
