Patricia Krentcil, "Tan Mom," Alleges ICE Agents Mistook Her for Undocumented Immigrant Due to Deep Tan

New Jersey's Patricia Krentcil, widely recognized as "Tan Mom," has recently alleged that federal immigration authorities nearly apprehended her after questioning her American citizenship. She attributes this unusual encounter to her famously dark tan, which first brought her widespread public attention.

During an appearance on the "Light. Tan. Up." podcast alongside actor Tom Arnold, Krentcil recounted the incident. She stated that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents approached her as she was departing a restaurant with friends.

"As we're walking out, the ICE people stopped me and they asked me, 'Am I an American citizen?'" Krentcil described. "And I'm like, 'Yes.' You know, like it blew my mind." She further claimed that the interaction escalated rapidly.

According to Krentcil, her notably bronzed complexion almost led to her being taken into custody. "Because I was so tan, they were about to handcuff me ... and take me away. God knows where," she asserted.

Krentcil, whose distinctive skin tone has been a subject of national discussion for over a decade, expressed her fear of being detained and transported to an unknown location. "Once you get in those trucks, you don't know where you're going anymore," she remarked. "I was scared, but I held my own and I got out of the situation."

She also accused immigration officials of discriminatory practices, stating, "But they're very racist about color and nationalities and stuff like that." Krentcil characterized the alleged ordeal as "terrifying."

Rise to Public Prominence

Krentcil initially gained national notoriety in 2012 when authorities accused her of bringing her then-five-year-old daughter into a tanning booth at a salon in New Jersey.

She was subsequently arrested and faced charges of second-degree child endangerment after her daughter reportedly arrived at school with visible sunburns. This incident ignited a significant media storm, drawing intense scrutiny to Krentcil's extreme tanning habits and parenting choices.

Ultimately, the legal proceedings concluded without an indictment. An Essex County grand jury decided against indicting Krentcil in February 2013, leading to the dismissal of all charges.

Life in the Sunshine State

Since the widely publicized case, Krentcil has relocated from New Jersey to Florida. In the Sunshine State, the individual whose famously deep tan made her a tabloid figure continues to embrace her lifestyle.
